The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (OMHA) has taken steps towards implementation of its long-anticipated Electronic Case Adjudication and and Processing Environment (ECAPE).
ECAPE is designed to function as an electronic case management and workflow system that includes the following operations:
- Electronic filing of Requests for OMHA Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Hearing;
- Exhibiting;
- Scheduling; and
- Case management.
Per an email from OMHA, the ECAPE portal is not yet open to all appellants. Presently, OMHA is working with 20 specific appellants who are submitting requests for OMHA ALJ hearing through the portal. OMHA plans to make the ECAPE system available to all appellants soon.
In the meantime, the OMHA ALJ Appeal Status Information System (AASIS) website remains accessible, and serves to allow appellants to check the status of appeals submitted to OMHA. The AASIS website is updated monthly.
